If you're here, thankyou for coming, and I hope you'll enjoy the words you are about to read. also, As you might have read on the website, my name is Henry Amadei. I'll tell you all about my self some other time, but for now, I'll get right into the blog.
To me, music is all up to interpretation, and the message that people get from it is very varied e.g; I listen to a taylor swift song thinking she's talking about how her relationship with a boy, when someone else could interpret as; her talking about her relationship with a house plant (not a real example [I wish it was though]). There's also so many ways that you can expirience music. I usually l listen to music in the shower, for example. So, while I'm putting shampoo in my hair, I can also hear about how "the last great american dynasty" is ending (I'm not saying I listen to Taylor Swift, it's just more likey that you've heard that song, than say; Heavy thoughts, [By: the Rosies]).
Recently, I went to a small concert in Berkeley (San Francisco) where a band called SWMRS was playing. I first heard their music on a climbling trip at a sleep away camp, when my councelor put on one of their ENTIRE albums on a road trip. My climbing councelor loved (and when I say loved, I mean LOVED.) Indie rock, and punk bands, so when he was in charge of the music I would have to listen to that for 3 hours straight, almost every day. Because of that expirience, I was kind of forced to like the music. from that month on, they were one of my favorite bands.
Now back to the actual story. We first went to a japanese restaurant called FISH and BIRD (creative name, I know). I won't go too in depth on the food (this is a music blog), but it was incredible. We then walked the 2 or three blocks to the venue, which turned out to be behind a bar. there were around 60, or 70 (at most) people at the venue, which was the perfect size. there were two tables with merch on the front left corner, a bar in the back, and walls on every side. the center stage was right in the front, with a drum set, microphones, guitars, and everything that a musician would need to perform a good show. The first people to come on stage were a band called The Rosies. I had never heard of them before, and I was a bit slow to like their music in the beginning, but that changed very quickly. You may have not ever been to a concert like this, but when I tell you the mash pit is the most fun thing I've ever done, I'm telling the truth. They started of with something called the wall of death, where the two sides of the room split in half, and on the musicians count of three we all ram into each other, and keep doing that for the rest of the song. At that point, my mom was worried about me, and pulled me out, but I was able to keep doing it "as long as I was being safe". When you're doing a mash pit, everything else in the world kind of disappears, and you're just in the moment. The music just becomes the backround, and you're not even paying attention to the words they're saying. After the Rosies got off stage, I went to get some of the merch (which there was alot of), and met one of the singers in the band. He was pretty cool, and said thing like: "Right on", "Hell yeah" and so on. He also gave me a CD which was pretty nice (I played that CD while learning how to drive stick, but that's a story for another time).
After getting a few (THREE) t-shirts, the next band (one of my favorite bands) got on; SWMRS. This was even better than The Rosies, because on top of the mash pit, I actually knew all of their songs. The ONE thing that was a little akward about the expirience was that everyone there was older than me (in their early 20's), and A few of the girls there were hitting on me, because in the dark, I might have looked like I was older. I just tried to just ingore it, and do my own thing. SWMRS also did a similar thing to the wall of death, but it was now a "wall of friendship" (fun). Now that the SWMRS had gotten off stage after a "one more song", I was drenched in sweat, and in the best mood of my life. We drove home, (which felt like 30 mins shorter than the 40 min ride there.) and got in the pool (which felt so good). I said goodnight, and there you have it, a music expirience.
